Tango und Labanotation

Abstract: On this page I'd like to display Labanotations for a better discussion of Tango Argentino dance steps. It may be the start of a collection of Tango Argentino steps.

i. Notation

Assumption:

If there is NO LEVEL indicated, I assume to be at "TangoLevel", which is of course a little bit with bent knees, but not as low as the "low level", maybe something like this:
(something between middle and low (see Chapter 26, Ann Hutchinson, Labanotation)

The man and the woman face eath other. For and exact description I think I have to take a few pictures.

1. How to write down a cruzado

(female part of the beginning of a what I've learnt is a basic)

medio basico

Explanation:

Step left forward; R.F. (right foot) to the side; L.F. backward; R.F. backward (but shorter) and then:

L.F. back high and in front of R.F (pin up); right leg is down and a bit back; left heel touches the instep of the R.F.

Hold on L.F.

2. Two sequences with ochos, cruzados and entradas

Explanation (if nothing mentioned: hombre part):

Normal salida (2 steps) then step to change feet (R.F. behind the L.F., do not turn the pelvis); 2 steps. Entrada (footstop) and sandwich (R.F. of the man between the feet of the woman (see bow, hombre R.F. touches mujer feet (but not on top !!))). Mujer steps over foot and the man leads an ocho, therefore the man has to shift the weight. Woman: another ocho directly into cruzado.

Explanation:

First 5 beats like above. Then instead of an ocho, the man leads a turn and interrupts it right away (beat 7) with R.F. Pulls R.F. back and leads ocho to finish or to continue of course.....

3. Contra parada and "overtaking" of the hombre at the right side

Explanation (if nothing mentioned: hombre part):

1, 2: Normal Salida, step left
3: Ochos; man with R.F., woman with L.F. (both at the same time, mirrored).
4: Man overtakes going back and is then on the left side of the woman.
5: Walk (always SLOW, if the man is on the "wrong" side), maybe several walks.
6: Going back to normal position, with 1/2 turn on R.F.

4. Backward stop and backward sacada
Explanation (if nothing mentioned: hombre part):

1,2: Salida, step left
3 : Step forward
4: Sacada with left leg, leads to a turn of 180 degree for the woman (on her R.F.).
5ff: ???

Vals:

5. "Triplet"
Explanation (if nothing mentioned: hombre part):

Milonga:

6. "Sequence with Milongas and 'locomotive'"
Explanation (if nothing mentioned: hombre part):

The sections marked with repeat can be repeated several times (or danced just once). There is an optional part (locomotive) and two possibilities for the woman (also there).

I hope I can write down as much sequences as possible.

Copyleft: feel free to edit and copy, but tell me about your ideas of those steps.
